CHR® 23816 is manufactured from silicone rubber/fibreglass cloth backing coated with high-temperature silicone adhesive.

23816 tape is designed to withstand both the punishing abrasion of grit blasting and the extreme temperatures/pressures associated with the plasma spray process. The adhesive of 23816 is a high-temperature silicone, which allows the product to withstand continuously temperatures up to 260 °C and also prevents tape slippage after application. 23816 tape has excellent strength and flexibility, which allows for easy wrapping of complex shapes and minimizes wrinkling during the flexing of cables.
Factory stock for 23816 is in master rolls 33 m x 1219 mm. Rolls can be slit in widths ranging from 6.35 mm to 1219 mm. 23816 is available with a liner.
23816 tape is used in the plasma spray process: a method of applying thin coatings of metal or high-temperature ceramics to a surface. The coating is sprayed at high pressure and at extreme temperatures. The tape is applied adjacent to areas of parts, that are to be plasma sprayed. 23816 protects these areas both from the grit blasting, which is used as a surface preparation, and from the actual plasma spray coating. The aerospace industry is the prime market for the use of plasma spray tapes, specifically jet engine manufacturers, overhaul centres, major airline maintenance centres, Air Force Bases and Naval Air Rework Facilities (NARF’S).
